Mom - Book 3 - Planet Walker: 22 years of walking; 17 years of silence

By John Francis, Ph D

In 1971 he witnessed an oil spill and as part of the clean up efforts he helped to scrub birds to try to save them. He was so distressed at what he saw that he took off walking and ended up walking for 22 years, of which 17 of them he didnt speak.

  1. True life account of a man who in his early 20s witnessed the devistation of a crach under the Golden Gate Bridge between 2 oil tankers. He tried to wash oil off birds and saw animals and plants losing life. This upset him so much that he started walking and gave up motorized transportation. Then he gave up speaking!

At first I thought he was just a wing nut but the further I got into the book the more I understood where he was coming from.

His philosophy was that by using motorized transport he was complicit in the oil accident that he saw. If he was using oil then at some level he was responsible for the environmental catastrophy he saw.

Interesting concept and an interesting read!
